Brief Description
The “EKUS hoch i” project investigates how modern information and control technology can be used to reduce individual, space-specific energy consumption and lower greenhouse gas emissions in public buildings while maintaining comfort.
The project builds on the findings of the “CampUS hoch i” (CHI) real-world laboratory. That project examined how the building sector within a university’s public sector can become climate-friendly or climate-neutral. The focus is on “smart” technologies for building operations, the “smart” involvement of stakeholders, and information and communication measures.
In the follow-up project EKUS hoch i, the research will focus more specifically on individual rooms. Among other things, the project will also utilize non-technical interventions and targeted stakeholder interaction to better involve interest groups in achieving the goals and to conduct communication in a more targeted manner. Through an in-depth stakeholder analysis, the opportunities and barriers to implementation will be identified more clearly, and conflicts of interest will be recognized and resolved at an early stage. On the technical side, individual-room solutions for energy savings—featuring intelligently integrated sensors and feedback tools—will be developed and tested, and the “Bauhütte” will be further developed as a demonstrator, along with a climate monitoring system to communicate the measures.
In addition, under the leadership of IGTE, the construction process for the LCRL building (LCRL: Large Scale Construction Robotic Laboratory) of the IntCDC Cluster of Excellence (IntCDC: Computer Integrated Design and Construction) is being overseen. The goal here is to enable the building to operate as greenhouse gas-neutral as possible through the development and implementation of an energy concept based largely on the use of renewable energy and waste heat, as well as the use of smart technologies for building operations.
The EKUS hoch i project is being carried out by an interdisciplinary team from university institutes and is supported by central university facilities and private companies.
