Examination and Admission Regulations

Forms

What to bring: completed form (with justification), medical certificate if applicable

You must submit your request directly to the Examination Office no later than 7 days before the exam date. A justification is not required; however, if you are ill, it is recommended that you indicate “illness” as the reason, in which case you must always submit a medical certificate.

After that, the request must be submitted to the Examination Committee along with a justification. If you are ill, please include a doctor’s note or submit it within three business days. Please note that the request will only be approved if it is received by the Examination Committee before the exam begins. Submit the request at Pfaffenwaldring 35, Room 35.0.111. If necessary, you may also send the request by email (see email address above) and submit the medical certificate later if needed.

If withdrawing from the exam causes you to exceed the deadline for passing the master’s exam, withdrawal is not permitted unless you are not at fault for the withdrawal.

Retake exams must be taken no later than during the exam period of the following semester. Withdrawal is not possible for retake exams unless you are not at fault for failing to take the exam—this generally applies only in cases of illness.

What to bring: completed form, supporting documents (e.g., a doctor’s note); current official notice or printout of your academic record

Applications must be submitted in writing in any format and include a statement explaining why you are not at fault for missing the deadline. This reason must be substantiated with supporting documents. In addition, please include a current official notice of your exam results (available from the Registrar’s Office) or a current transcript of your exam results that you have obtained yourself.
Please note that, for the most part, only illness during the exam period or a prolonged illness during the semester preceding the exam period will be accepted as a valid reason. This must be substantiated by a doctor’s note.
Other reasons may include: caring for a child under the age of three for whom you have custody, who lives in your household, and whom you care for alone; a long-term or permanent physical disability; or pregnancy.

Please bring: the completed form, a current official notice or printout of your academic record.

Please first check whether the responsible examiner or department requires approval from the Examination Board. This is handled differently in each case. Many examiners offer set times for reviewing exam papers, which you should then attend.
If you need approval from the Examination Board, you can obtain it from Ms. Lier or Ms. Costa at the GKM Student Office during their office hours; see http://www.gkm.uni-stuttgart.de/ansprechpartner/studienbuero.html.

Please bring: the completed form, including the justification and comments from the primary examiner and advisor.

On the form for registering your undergraduate or master’s thesis with the Registrar’s Office, both (!) professors responsible for your chosen specialization subjects must first confirm their approval (even though the form contains only one section for a signature). You must obtain this confirmation yourself. You can obtain the form from the Registrar’s Office. With this form and a confirmation from the supervisor stating that they will oversee the thesis, you then submit a request for approval by the Examination Committee.

What to bring: the completed form, and documentation of the coursework and academic achievements for which you are requesting credit.

Please note that requests for credit for prior coursework (placement into a higher semester) must be submitted to the Registrar’s Office.
