Testing and Inspection

The HLK test center at IGTE, University of Stuttgart, is an EN ISO 17025 accredited, independent testing laboratory. We perform tests on various components in the fields of heating, ventilation and air conditioning.

The section of residential ventilation testing is acknowledged by DIBt as well as PHI certification. Furthermore, other testings required to be done by an independent test lab all over Europe (e.g. Belgian Building Regulation, Swiss Energie Cluster) can be performed and are recognized. This includes also testings needed to fulfill the mandatory regulations (EU) No. 1253/2013 and 1254/2013.

Range of testing

We test ducted and nonducted residential ventilation units with heat recovery as well as heat exchangers and fans up to 3000m³/h based on the common standards such as e.g.:

EN 13141, ISO 5801, EN 308, DIBt LÜ-A, PHI, Belgian EPB, NEN 5138, Ö-Norm B8110-6, DIN 4719, SAP-Q, EN ISO 5136, EN ISO 3744, JIS.

Based on these standards, we perform the following main tests:

  • Leakage tests (internal and external, pressure method and tracer gas method)
  • Indoor/outdoor mixing with tracer gas
  • Aerodynamic tests (measurement of fan curves, SFP/SPI values)
  • Thermal test at different conditions (mesasurement of heat and humidity recovery ratios)
  • Frost protection test down to -15 °C
  • Acoustic tests (device sound, duct sound, sound damping)

We perform final type test as well as pretests for development purposes. We also test heat pumps and combined units (ventilation plus heat pump) according to PHI, DIBt and EN 16573. Furthermore, we offer support in setting up your own testing facilities.

In the section of heat pump testing, we are recognized as a test institute to obtain the European EHPA quality label as well as HP Keymark, Eurovent, French NFPAC and the German BAFA listing.

Other testings required to be done by an independent test lab all over Europe can also be performed. This includes all testings needed to fulfill regulations (EU) No. 811/2013, 812/2013, 813/2013 and 814/2013.

The Chair of Heating and Ventilation at IGTE is active in the areas of research and evaluation of heat pump systems.

Range of testing

We test electric and gas-driven heat pumps according to main standards such as:

EN 14511, EN 14825, EN16147, EN 12102, EN 16573 and further test regulations with the following conditions:

  • Performance testing brine/water and water/water heat pumps to 70kW
  • Performance testing air/water heat pumps up to 35 kW
  • Performance testing air/air heat pumps according the enthalpy method
  • Testing of ventilation units with and without heat pumps (acknowledged by DIBT and PHI)
  • Domestic hot water heat pump efficiencies up to XXL
  • Sound test based on EN ISO 9614 and EN ISO 3744

We perform final type test as well as pretests for development purposes. We also test heat pumps and combined units (ventilation plus heat pump) according to PHI, DIBt and EN 16573. Furthermore, we offer support in setting up your own testing facilities.
