In life cycle assessments, the entire process chain of a product is considered: manufacturing, transport, use, and disposal. Environmentally relevant aspects, such as e.g. the cumulative energy demand (CED) based on VDI 4600, are determined, or an ecological evaluation as per the ReCiPe method based on ISO 14040 and ISO 14044 is conducted. Dependent on the assessed products and using the LCA results, key performance indicators such as e.g. the energetic payback period or the total energy savings during the service life of a product can be calculated as well.
